A devilish watchExorcisms and Asylums, two things which are considered to be creepy and scary. Surely a combination of the two should make for a shocking film? Not in the hands of this director.
The attempts at this film being scary involve cheap jump scares, people screaming and thrashing about, resulting in a film that's as scary as a slice of pie. Despite many attempts to shock the viewers, the most shocking thing is that this film made 100 times its budget at the box office.
Not one single performance manages to be the slightest bit notable, leaving you to forget the names of the one-dimensional characters mere hours after seeing the film. The script is a logic-free mess, resulting in something that's not even good enough to clean cat sick with.
There is nothing about this film which feels like anybody involved even bothered to try and make a good film, but rather wanted to make a cheap cash-in on the found footage franchise which the Paranormal Activity films made a success of. This sense of laziness is evident all throughout the film, with one scene especially feeling like it was deliberately ripped off from The Last Exorcism, and even manages to transcend into the marketing, with the poster being an example of this.

The biggest failing, however, is in the much-criticized ending, whish is considered to be one of the worse endings in recent history, and deservedly so. It feels like the film-makers didn't know how to end it, so didn't bother to try at all. The fact that they didn't give any effort to even competently end things, which could have taken as little as a minute, is what really grates. 16 year-old's put more effort into things which only last a minute.
The Devil Inside is cheap, dull and lazy in every possible way. Nothing more than a cheap cash-in on the found footage franchise. If you want to watch an asylum based horror which contains an exorcism, then tune into American Horror Story: Asylum.
